A Wedding at Monkey World: One Very Unusual Ceremony Backdrop

Last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a wedding at Monkey World in Dorset, and honestly, it was such a brilliant day.

I’ve photographed weddings in some pretty lovely places over the years, but this one was definitely a little different. For starters, the ceremony had probably one of the most unusual backdrops I’ve ever photographed!

And then there were the monkeys...

Obviously, when you get married at Monkey World, there’s always a chance the residents might want to see what’s going on. And they definitely seemed interested in the wedding!

It made for some brilliant moments and, as you can imagine, there was plenty of laughter throughout the day.

A wedding that was just fun

What I loved about this wedding was how relaxed it all felt.

There was loads of personality, lots of laughing and none of that feeling that everything had to be perfectly posed. It was just a couple having a brilliant time with the people they love.

And that's exactly the sort of wedding I love photographing.

I’m not really a “stand here, smile at the camera” kind of photographer. Of course, I’ll get some lovely photographs of you both, but I also want to capture everything else going on around you.

The funny moments.

The little looks between people.

Your friends making you laugh.

Your family getting emotional.

And, occasionally, a monkey deciding it would quite like to be involved!

Those are the photographs that make me smile when I’m editing a wedding gallery.

Monkey World wedding photography

If you're getting married at Monkey World, you’ve probably already decided that you don’t want a completely traditional wedding.

And I think your photography should reflect that.

Your wedding doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s. If you’re planning something a little different, I want your photographs to show exactly that.

I’ll still get the important photographs you’ll want to look back on, but I’m much more interested in capturing the day as it actually happened rather than taking you away from it for hours.

You’ve spent a lot of time planning your wedding. You should actually get to enjoy it!

Looking for a Dorset wedding photographer?

If you’re getting married at Monkey World, or planning a wedding somewhere else in Dorset, and you’re looking for relaxed, natural wedding photography, I’d love to hear from you.

I photograph weddings across Dorset, Berkshire and beyond, and I’m always happy to photograph something a little different.

Because, let's be honest, the more personality your wedding has, the more fun it is to photograph.

And this one definitely had personality. 🐒😂
